Well you may be wondering why I haven’t been updating the site as much as I usually do and that is because of tons of other work I’ve been doing.

Vacation…

August 13th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Blog
vacation

Hey all just wanted to let you know I’ll be away on vacation in Canada (Niagra Falls & Stuff) August 13th through the 15nd. I’ll have my old laptop but being it doesn’t have built-in wireless I have to take the wireless adapter from my desktop with me which means ZNet-III will be offline until I return. This means PC Radio and our Spherack Profile Server (which you shouldn’t worry about being the game isn’t even out yet) won’t be available. Sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll try to write something while I’m up there for the site, but it’s a Pentium III laptop… can’t do much with it really. I’m going to be buying a new one after a few more paychecks from work though! Hence why I’ve basically been working every day; to get moneys.

Anyways, see you all in a few days!

A small archive of the RIAA’s quest to track down and sue people who have been illegally downloading songs off the internet. Reading some instantly made me drop my current download and delete the partly-finished files. I don’t feel like having a $360,000 lawsuit, really. I can buy a house down south maybe and a few computers and french horns. =]

Entrepreneurship, High-Speed and Rail Travel

July 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Blog
entrepreneurship-high-speed-and-rail-travel

In the United States we get the last one. Europe generally has the last two. Now it seems Italy is getting all three, a welcome move from those of us who decry the socialistic rail systems in most countries. Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori, a private company, has announced plans to open competition with the state-owned monopoly starting in 2011. The $1.4 billion project will link Rome, Milan, Turin, Venice, Florence, Bologna, Naples, Bari and Salerno. From Gulliver (hat tip):

The trains—the new Automotrice Grande Vitesse designed by Alstom, a French company—will travel at 190mph, cutting the four-hour Rome-Milan journey to three hours.

Perhaps, if Amtrak were to be deregulated and privatized, we would be seeing similar things in America. In any case, the trains are quite spiffy:

Guess Who’s the Sharpest Image Now?

July 14th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Blog

The Sharper Image Stores are going out of business and closing down and everything, so pretty much you can buy anything you want. Well guess who bought the outdoor sign? Yeah, that’s right, I did. You WISH you had one of these.

My friends and I took it with us to Wendy’s and one of them walked up to the counter holding the sign against them and ordered. The expression on the emlpoyee’s faces were just priceless.

Why’s my radio on the floor?

July 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Blog
whys-my-radio-on-the-floor

So after a long epic game of Warcraft III with KJ and another friend, I ended up going to bed around 3AM and had a long nice un-interrupted sleep that lasted until 1:30PM. Well… it was almost un-interrupted.

I’m on my computer and all, then I turn around to face my bed and the little table I have next to it. Then I realized my radio was on the floor. I must have punched it off my table in the middle of the night (or morning) thinking I was still fighting endless waves of orcs. Sure explains that loud crash I heard while I was sleeping but was too tired to worry about whether it was a guy with knife or not.

Apparently old stuff according to a lot of folk on Digg, but if you haven’t seen this, it might be a good idea for you to brush up on what road signs mean. [Click]

How I saved $100 by fixing my own Camera

It’s quick, simple, cheap, and you can do it too! I mean, no sense in worrying about breaking something if it’s already broken, right?

Inane Facebook groups

June 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Blog

A comment I made earlier today on the wall of the Facebook group “15,000,000 for lower gas prices”, which contains 1,684,698 members at this point (only off the mark by a few million):

Of course all gas consumers want lower prices. Everyone who buys gas would like it to cost $0. And of course all gas sellers want higher prices. Everyone who sells gas would like it to cost $1,000,000 per gallon.

The whole point of a market is to find the price in between where supply and demand are roughly equal. By saying that the market price is the wrong one, you’re just rehashing the old and dead concept of the just price. Just saying “we want lower gas prices” means nothing; it’s changes in supply and demand that count.

Rather than joining this group and complaining about gas prices, I’d recommend that you help reduce demand by conserving energy and driving less, and encouraging others to do the same; and help increase supply, by writing to your representative/MP and encouraging him/her to back measures to remove taxes and environmental measures that discourage and reduce drilling and refining. Everyone wants lower gas prices, but it won’t happen just by complaining.

‘The Road to Serfdom’ in Five Minutes

June 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Blog, Videos

This is a five-minute condensed version of Friedrich Hayek’s book The Road to Serfdom from General Motors’ “Thought Starter” booklet.

Please note that the written panes go by quickly, so you may need to pause the video to read some of them.

Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty (hat tip) asks the million-dollar question: “At what stage does America find itself today?” The optimist in me says stage 6; the pessimist notes that President Bush fits the “strong man” in Stage 10 quite well.

What do you think?
