So Microsoft has finally released its long-awaited Service Pack 3 for the Windows XP operating system. However, having just a few days passed from its release, Microsoft’s already receiving a flood of post-installation complaints ranging from random blue-screen’s to endless reboot cycles.
A former program manager for Microsoft’s Security policy, Jesper Johanson, now runs a Windows blog and explained these reboots and their cause:
“At this point, I want to clarify that the endless rebooting is not at all related to SP3 per se. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.”
Errors and failures are quite common with Microsoft’s service pack’s however, and solutions can become available within a short term.
According to eFlux Media:
The company stated that a series of tests and investigations are being conducted and as soon as results will show, the customers will be immediately informed. Also, through one of it’s officials, Microsoft asked its buyers to contact the Microsoft Customer Support Service on any issues concerning the Windows XP SP3 installation.
However, it’s still rather upsetting Microsoft can take so long to build this update and release it with so many bugs anyway. What are they trying to do, turn users off from Windows XP and get them to switch to Vista? Of course, this doesn’t mean everyone’s going to have these issues though… I’ve been running on a beta of SP3 for the past few months and have been fine for the most part.
