Today we learn, courtesy of the England Historic Genealogical Society (and the Associated Press) that Mr Obama is also a distant cousin of Brad Pitt. That’s so much cooler than Dick Cheney. Mr Obama also has a strong line of presidential connections that is curiously bipartisan: George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison all turn up on distant branches of the family tree. Other notable relations include Winston Churchill and General Robert E. Lee. Mr Obama’s people declined to comment, but we hope they don’t lose the joke entirely.
