Invasion (2007)

I’ve decided to review this movie for only a FEW reasons. Knowing me and my attitude these days, I never really go to the movie theater because there’s nothing out that’s good. Sadly, somehow managed to this movie…I don’t know how.

 

Of course, this is one of the many remakes of the classic Si-Fi Movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Of course, I have only seen the 70s rendition (Donald Sutherland for the win) but this movie was one hell of a disappointment.

 

The movie opens with a very distressed Nicole Kidman telling herself to stay awake. Let’s just say it somehow transitions to a spaceship crash where space junk falls and odd spores from the wreckage (oh yes, it’s heat resistant) but one silly agent gets cut and the spore begins growing in his body. After a good sleep (how long it takes for the spore to “body snatch”) the human is a perfect…er nonhuman.

 

 

The plot then involves Nicole with her “immune from the spore/savior” child in which they run around a city filled with these perfect beings. Now listen to me when I say that the original films had bad endings where everyone basically gets snatched. Well guess what?! World is back to normal in this one! YAAY AMERICA.

 

Now really, they find a cure and all are saved. But thats not how it really goes. Hell, even in the old films, Sutherland got snatched.

 

 

Now not only the crappy ending, but I had mixed reactions to the way the alien people were portrayed. In the old films, they were basically silent unless they let out giant screeches. And that was the movie: screeches! Now all this movie has are a bunch of emotionless actors all like “GO TO BED GODDAMMIT” and vomiting everywhere. Yes, instead of the retro pods, the spores would vomit in the humans drinks…or in their face. How pleasant.

 

This movie does make me want to vomit with all it’s cheesy editing like “WOOSH ACTION ODD CAMERA ANGLES I JUST GRADUATED FROM NYU AND GOT AN INTERNSHIP EDITING FILMS I AM AWESOME**”

 

**Note: I have nothing against NYU.

 

Ok, since that was enough capital letters to serve us all for a few weeks, lemme just say although it was a nice try at a modern adaption, it failed in many departments in both editing and the style they went for. I decree this movie:
