[How to] Xbox 360 LiveCam

I just purchased a Microsoft XBox 360 Live-cam from my friend Steve for 30 USD; 10 USD less than the original store price. I must say I’m pretty pleased. I don’t have an XBox, but the camera can be plugged into the USB drive on any PC running Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Below I’ve made a tutorial on how to install the drivers for this device.The quality of this camera is great, especially for the price. Microsoft is selling other web cameras for 99 USD, yet I didn’t see the need to go that high in price so I settled for this, and yes, I’m happy with it.A genuine copy of Windows XP is needed for the drivers are downloaded off of Windows Update.You must have Service Pack 2 installed for these drivers to work. If you are unsure what SP you use, right click “My Computer” and select properties. Click Here to see how it’s done.The drivers for this device are currently not compatible with Windows Vista. How to use your XBox LiveCam on your Windows XP Based Computer.

Find your shortcut to “My Computer,” usually positioned in the Windows Start Menu, or your desktop.

Right click “My Computer” and select properties.

Click the hardware tab and select “Device manager.”

Find “Microsoft XBox Live Camera” or whatever it may be called, right click it and select “Update Driver.”

A window should appear, and you may be prompt

ed to connect to Windows update to download the drivers. Select “No, not at this time.” and then Next.

You’ll then be prompted to either automatically search for the driver, or look for it yourself. Select to look for it yourself (advanced).

Next, do not put in a location, select the button BELOW the browse area. Forgot what that’s labeled; I’m at school right now, sorry. XD;

That option should give you a list of “compatible” drivers. As long as you are running service pack 2 you should see “USB Composite Device.” Select this, click next, and it should then set up the right drivers.

Hope this works being this is a common issue people are having.

Enjoy!
